Up, up and away on Wednesday, 9/24 at 9:55pm on Singapore Airlines. First the details: the monster plane seats 372 people, has 310 people in coach, 50 people in business class and 12 people in first class. Two of those 12 are me and Darin. There is something a little odd about sitting in the nose of the plane and the pilot sitting a floor above.
The whole service with a smile thing that started in the airline clubs continues to the nth degree on Singapore Airlines. Three crew members are assigned to the first class cabin and their entire job is to make sure that if you look the least bit puzzled or even cock your eyebrow; they are there to assist.
I needed a tutorial just to figure out the eight buttons on the left hand arm rest. By the time we landed in Frankfurt at 4:15am NY time, I'd found the pull out tray in front of me with stationary, postcards and pens; figured out some of the buttons on the remote control operated audio video on demand system; and looked through the three bins of magazines, newspapers and other stuff on my right hand side of the seat.
After a five course dinner of appetizers, soups, salads, main courses, desserts, cheeses and nuts all accompanied by champagne and fine wines-- presents arrived. Pajamas, socks, eye shades and a designer bag with perfume and lotions for the women. Not bad!
As several of our cabin mates moved to the bathrooms to change for bed; the seats were repositioned so we could comfortably lie flat! and the seats were made up with sheets, pillows and blankets for several hours of dream free flight.
I was exhausted when we landed in Frankfurt at 4:15am NY time; 10:15am in Frankfurt. And we are still on the way to our vacation destination! Whew!

Oh you guys - I'm soooo jealous! I'll have to book a first class flight to Europe just so I can join in the experience. I'm looking forward to lots and lots of pictures I can use for screensavers! Stay safe! Kathy (the EA)
